Job Summary

We are seeking a Substitute Paraeducator - Bus Monitor to assist with the transportation of special education students in the Olympia School District. This is a substitute/on-call position that requires the ability to work varied hours and routes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist bus drivers in maintaining order and minimizing disruptive activity on the school bus.
  • Assess special education students for the purpose of providing health care and other special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses.
  • Clean assigned vehicles to maintain appearance, sanitation, and safety.
  • Instruct special education students to enforce rules and regulations and maintain safety.
  • Prepare documentation to provide written support and/or convey information.
Requirements
  • Job-related experience.
  • Skills to operate standard office equipment, provide for special health care needs of students, and communicate effectively with students and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of vehicle operation and special health care requirements.
  • Abilities to understand and address students with special needs, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Education and Certifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Drug Testing Clearance.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Right Response Certification (or willingness to obtain and maintain).
