Position Title: Special Needs Transportation Assistant
Job Overview: The role of the "Special Needs Transportation Assistant" is designed to support students with special educational requirements during their transit to and from educational facilities. This position involves ensuring the safety and well-being of students while they are being transported, as well as assisting with their health care needs during the journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the bus operator in maintaining a calm and orderly environment on the school bus.
- Evaluate the needs of special education students to provide appropriate health care and assistance during loading and unloading, including in emergency situations.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of assigned vehicles, both inside and out.
- Guide special education students in understanding and adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Document relevant information to support communication and record-keeping.
Additional Duties:
- Assist colleagues as necessary to facilitate the completion of their tasks.
Qualifications:
Experience: Relevant experience in a similar role is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and address the health care needs of students effectively.
- Understanding of vehicle operation and special health care requirements.
- Capability to comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Physical abilities include climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, and the capacity to lift and assist students with disabilities.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Certifications: Candidates must possess a Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Drug Testing Clearance, and a First Aid Certificate.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
