Job Description

The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Outreach Worker to join our team in Brooklyn, NY. As an Outreach Worker, you will play a critical role in our Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) program, working to prevent violence and promote positive change in our community.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and form relationships with high-risk individuals to help them redirect their lives in more positive directions.
  • Build and maintain a caseload of high-risk participants, developing and implementing personalized risk reduction plans.
  • Work with community partners and the S.O.S. team to identify and diffuse "hot spots" for shootings and violence.
  • Intervene in local conflicts to prevent violence and work to prevent retaliations when violence does occur.
  • Provide clients with support and linkages to programs and opportunities in the community.
  • Conduct outreach to the community to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups.
  • Participate in organizing responses to shootings and increase visibility in the target area.
  • Document all work, including shootings and other acts of violence prevented, case notes, referrals, and changes in participant status.
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years' experience in a related area, or the equivalent.
  • Knowledge of mental health illness and understanding of psychosocial triggers, strengths, and personal needs.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth and gang members, and knowledge of street sets, crews, gangs, and groups.
  • Ability to walk 30 blocks or more on a regular basis, pass a drug screening, and work a flexible schedule that includes late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Competitive salary range: $55,000 - $58,400.
