Job Title: Enrichment Teacher

Reports to: Vice President, Education and Leadership Development

Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt

Program: I Can Excel – (Monday- Friday 4:30-6:30pm)

Organization: FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM, INC. is a dynamic youth development organization that uniquely integrates educational initiatives with the discipline and artistry of figure skating. Our mission is to empower girls aged 6 to 18 from underserved communities by providing them with innovative educational opportunities and health and wellness resources that enable them to realize their full potential. We envision a future where every student, irrespective of their socio-economic background, acquires essential academic, social, and leadership skills to fulfill their aspirations.

Role Summary: As a vital member of the I Can Excel Program, the Enrichment Teacher will operate under the guidance of the Vice President of Education and Leadership Development. The Enrichment Teacher will deliver a curriculum designed to broaden each student's knowledge base, enhance critical thinking abilities, and foster a lifelong curiosity.

The curriculum at FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM is rooted in meaningful activities that aim to deepen students' understanding and skills, igniting their curiosity about their role in the community and the world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Align with a student-centered and inquiry-based learning philosophy that promotes exploration and the creation of high-quality work.
  • Collect and analyze data on student performance to adapt the learning environment and instructional methods to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Engage all students in the learning process at their individual levels, encouraging their voices in discussions and project choices.
  • Inspire curiosity and unlock the potential of each learner.
  • Implement and teach a curriculum focused on life skills, communication/debate, STEAM, entrepreneurship/innovation, or self-advocacy.
  • Design and oversee project-based learning initiatives that align with the subject curriculum.
  • Manage classrooms of girls in a safe and respectful atmosphere.
  • Assess, monitor, and document student progress effectively.
  • Foster a positive classroom culture through effective management strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviors that support character development.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with students and their families.
  • Uphold the values and principles of youth development as practiced by FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of culturally responsive teaching and social justice education.
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring youth.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, creativity, innovation, and adaptability.
  • Commitment to working throughout the program duration.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

Compensation: $45 - $60/hour for instructional duties, $30/hour for academic-related training.
