The Loan Officer Assistant at Neighborhood Housing Services plays a crucial role in the operational support of a lending office. This position encompasses the entire loan origination process, which includes managing documentation and liaising with all parties involved to ensure a smooth workflow. Additionally, the assistant is responsible for verifying essential loan details and requirements prior to submitting documentation to the lender.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a referral source for loan officers through various channels.
- Assist clients with inquiries related to previous loan applications.
- Act as a consistent point of contact for clients, aiding them in gathering necessary information and completing required documents throughout the loan process.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders involved in the loan application process, including mortgage loan originators, underwriters, and real estate agents.
- Collect information for new loan underwriting, such as credit reports, tax documents, business entity searches, and title work.
- Ensure compliance of loan documentation with federal and state regulations.
- Support the Director with scheduling meetings and appointments.
- Review loan applications prior to submission to ensure all necessary fields are completed for reporting.
- Oversee payments for lending accounts and related services.
- Collaborate with Closing, Finance, and Lending departments to ensure accurate labeling and uploading of documents for loan sales.
- Act as a liaison between Lending and Grants departments to ensure timely completion and submission of various programs.
- Maintain organized ENCOMPASS files by addressing unlabeled and outdated documents.
- Assist with audit preparations.
- Experience with mortgage loan software systems.
- Familiarity with Encompass LOS System is preferred.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Capability to explain complex concepts in straightforward terms.
- Comprehensive understanding of closing procedures, loan processes, and necessary documentation.
- Proficient in banking software and MS Office applications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective multitasking and time management abilities.
- Possession or willingness to obtain the necessary state lending license.
- GED or Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
- One to three years of experience in lending, finance, or accounting is preferred.
- Experience in a not-for-profit environment is advantageous.
- Familiarity with the greater Metropolitan Chicago Area and its various neighborhoods is beneficial.
- Strong time management skills.
