Overview of the Position
This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain insights into healthcare governance, management, finance, and the regulatory landscape of the healthcare sector. The intern will engage with various departmental functions and participate in hospital projects tailored to their academic focus and the requirements of their mentors. Each intern will be assigned a mentor who will guide and supervise their internship experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities for enhancing systems and processes.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and other relevant gatherings.
  • Complete special assignments as directed by members of the Executive or Hospital Leadership team, and present findings and experiences to the appropriate leadership.
  • Support the accomplishment of established departmental goals and objectives while adhering to policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations. Ensure compliance with governmental and accreditation standards.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teams focused on quality and service improvement as needed. Contribute to community outreach initiatives when appropriate.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information and assistance.
  • Embrace the Mission and Vision of MedStar Health while developing interpersonal skills and advancing professional growth.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required; current enrollment in an accredited college or university is necessary.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and entering the senior year of an undergraduate program or enrolled in a graduate program.

Experience

  • Prior experience in the healthcare sector is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • No specific certification, registration, or license is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and work independently.
  • Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to articulate and convey complex information to team members and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
