Job Overview

As a Behavioral Health Consultant, you will play a vital role in conducting psychological assessments and evaluations for prisoners in the correctional facility or defendants in the court system. Your expertise will be essential in determining whether defendants are suitable for alternative sentencing programs and in coordinating competency evaluations. You will work closely with approved doctors to develop Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) for each client, recommending specialized treatment and wellness resources. Your role will involve monitoring and assisting defendants in achieving the goals set out in their ISPs, as well as navigating social services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct psychological assessments and evaluations (intake assessments) for prisoners in the corrections or court system.
  2. Coordinate competency evaluations.
  3. Recommend specialized treatment and wellness resources.
  4. Communicate with the defendant's family or other appropriate city personnel.
  5. Administer short or long-term therapy or provide referrals for therapy.
  6. Provide organizational interventions if needed.
  7. Conduct employee or defendant training (e.g., anger management training) and crisis response.
  8. Serve as a technical resource or mentor to other employees.
  9. May supervise less experienced personnel.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Thorough knowledge of psychological practices and services.
  • General knowledge of all applicable laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of human resources practices.
  • Strong planning, organizational, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong statistical skills.
  • Ability to work across City departments.
  • Knowledge of corrections and court system policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to capture pertinent information and strong documentation skills.
