Job Overview

Caprock Academy is in search of a dedicated Special Education Support Specialist. As a public, tuition-free institution, we are committed to delivering a classically oriented educational experience.

This curriculum is designed to provide content-rich instruction, ensuring cumulative knowledge and coherent lesson sequencing. The Special Education Support Specialist will work under the guidance of the Special Education teacher and report to the Director of Support Services. This role is pivotal in assisting educators and administration in fulfilling the mission of fostering academic and personal growth among students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate learning in small groups or on an individual basis while the teacher engages with other students.
  • Understand and implement relevant IEP information, including goals, accommodations, and behavior strategies.
  • Provide support to students in general education settings as directed.
  • Adhere to schedules developed in accordance with Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) guidelines.
  • Assist with individualized instructional materials.
  • Support students in activities initiated by the teacher.
  • Ensure student health and safety are monitored.
  • Track student progress as instructed.
  • Help teachers observe, record, and analyze student behavior.
  • Assist in managing crises and behavior challenges.
  • Supervise students during transitions and in common areas.
  • Support the physical needs of students, including assistance with toileting and feeding.
  • Complete documentation to track student data and progress.
  • Assist with independent study and supplementary work.
  • Maintain accurate records for teachers, including scoring tests and assignments.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Help prepare instructional materials such as flashcards and worksheets.
  • Collaborate with teachers and case managers to develop classroom schedules.
  • Assist with field trips and other school activities.
  • Support general classroom activities as required.
  • Supervise recreational activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with students is advantageous.
  • Commitment to the principles of Classical Education and the Core Knowledge Sequence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
  • Appreciation for cultural and ethnic diversity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Advocate for children and families.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Patience and understanding towards children, especially those with special needs.
