Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Peer Recovery Coach OSOP to provide outreach and engagement to survivors of an opiate overdose after discharge and referral from the emergency department.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to relate to patients and health professionals, and to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide non-clinical services to aid patients in establishing recovery and reducing the risk associated with a subsequent overdose.
  • Help complete referrals to recovery support and substance abuse treatment services.
  • Develop service plans to promote successful linkage to referred services.
  • Conduct screenings to understand the patient's history of drug and/or alcohol use, treatment history, social service and other recovery support needs and motivation to change behavior.
  • Facilitate patient's readiness for change and use motivational interviewing techniques and other communication skills to support and encourage the patient to plan for reduction or elimination of drug and alcohol use.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with at least three years of personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use with no relapses.
