Job Summary

The Peer Recovery Specialist will provide behavioral health services that foster supportive peer relationships with and among individuals enrolled in behavioral health services and other related programs. This role requires a personal belief in recovery and a sincere interest in the welfare of individuals in recovery. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to engage and serve consumers, contribute to the overall success of the consumer's recovery process, and carry out duties with flexibility and an individual focus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support services to individuals enrolled in behavioral health services.
  • Conduct peer support groups to assist individuals in realizing their personal goals in treatment, employment, education, and other life-changing opportunities.
  • Document program measures, including the Monthly Programmatic Report to BHS Baltimore.
  • Report directly to the Clinical Supervisor on all matters pertinent to the successful obtainment of program goals and standards.
Requirements
  • Must have completed the state-approved CCAR/WRAP training and be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
  • Must be a self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services who can relate to others who are now using these services.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of Recovery Supportive Services.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have maintained sobriety/recovery for a period of no less than 2 years.
  • Must have a commitment to recovery, choice, empowerment, and the ability of people with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders to find meaningful lives in the community.
  • Must be able to establish a trusting relationship with peers, including excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented with good writing and organizational abilities.
  • Must be able to network within the community and work with diverse populations.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word and Excel.
