Position Summary
The Senior Patient Access Representative is responsible for welcoming, scheduling, and registering patients with professionalism and warmth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and direct incoming calls and messages
- Facilitate insurance verifications and pre-authorization processes
- Organize medical records and prepare necessary documentation
- Collaborate effectively with insurance providers to secure pre-certifications and authorizations for services
- Interpret and communicate relevant clinical information to insurance representatives
- Submit pre-certification requests to insurance companies
- Safeguard confidential information while maintaining accurate filing systems and data entry
- Verify patient insurance details and document them in scheduling and registration systems
- Input and update patient information and other relevant data into the electronic system
- Conduct patient intake processes, including insurance verification and demographic confirmation
- Track account progress, including updating authorization logs and managing referral documentation
- Exhibit knowledge of various managed care insurance policies and regulatory standards
- Oversee the waiting area and communicate patient readiness to clinical staff
- Provide support to physicians, department managers, and clinical personnel as needed
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Perform additional duties as required
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA standards regarding patient health information
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Preferred: College degree
- Minimum of 1 year of office or clerical experience in a healthcare setting
- Exceptional customer service abilities, including negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Clear and organized communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage deadlines amid frequent interruptions
Work Environment
- Physical Requirements: The role may require occasional movement within the office, sitting for extended periods, and performing light lifting (up to 15 pounds).
- Mental Requirements: The employee must be capable of following instructions, collaborating with team members, and managing stress effectively.
- Office Setting: The position is based in a well-lit and ventilated office environment, subject to frequent interruptions. Minimal exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials is expected.
