Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Education

Deliver exceptional patient care tailored to individual diagnoses, treatments, age groups, and specific needs. Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, and psychosocial evaluations. Monitor and interpret laboratory and clinical data during daily rounds, ensuring accurate documentation and communication of findings.

Proactively manage and alleviate symptoms and health complications associated with diseases or treatments in collaboration with physicians and healthcare teams. Assess the effectiveness of care provided and adjust treatment plans as necessary, offering psychological support to patients and their families. Facilitate communication between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, coordinating necessary services and appointments.

Identify educational needs for patients and families regarding treatment management and clinical trials, ensuring clear communication through direct interactions and follow-ups. Engage in active listening to assess patient conditions and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders.

Administer both investigational and non-investigational medications in accordance with established guidelines. Collect and accurately identify laboratory specimens as required by protocols.

Data Management

Evaluate patient eligibility for clinical trials and research protocols through interviews and assessments in various settings. Maintain mobility across inpatient and outpatient environments, utilizing effective communication methods to gather and document patient information.

Coordinate and monitor patient participation in clinical studies, ensuring thorough follow-up through personal interviews and medical record reviews. Schedule necessary tests and procedures throughout treatment episodes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of requests.

Collect laboratory specimens for research purposes, adhering to institutional protocols for specimen handling. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess patient responses to treatment protocols, providing comprehensive reports on findings.

Assist in the collection and evaluation of research data, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and federal regulations. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all protocols and projects, addressing any issues in accordance with regulatory standards.

Professional Development

Provide education to professional and ancillary staff to ensure safe patient care management. Deliver formal and informal training sessions, offering clear written instructions for new protocols.

Act as a mentor for research nurses and coordinators, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Qualifications

Education: Must meet the degree requirements set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing or the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

Experience: Preferred candidates will have at least one year of experience in an Advanced Practice Provider role.

Licensure/Certification: Required to possess written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is mandatory. Additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS may be preferred based on the patient care area.
