Bilingual Clinic Nurse

The Clinic Nurse will assist the clinic staff with all operations of clinic sessions and administrative issues as needed. In the absence of the Clinic Director, the Clinic Nurse will oversee the administrative, organizational and clinical operations. In addition, the Clinic Nurse will assist the Clinic Director and the with special projects and other activities.
Key Outcomes- In the first 90 days, the Clinic Nurse will demonstrate skill using electronic health record, demonstrate understanding of clinic flow and basic nursing skills, oversee telehealth visit, and identify patient education needs.
- In the first 6 months, the Clinic Nurse will assume charge of clinic session when the CD is not present, demonstrate familiarity with available medications and referral resources, document SDOH and all other intake parameters while providing necessary resources to the clinic patients, begin to develop case management skills, oversee inventory control of medical supplies/pharmaceutical/POCT supplies, and demonstrate ability to function as a nurse in any clinic site and/or function as a clinic nurse Ability to triage patient calls and appropriate referrals.
- In the first year, the Clinic Nurse will manage complex patients, assume responsibility for special projects, and participate in orientation of new staff members and volunteers.
- Demonstrate professionalism and skill in working with staff and patients.
- Participate as team member of medical team in all aspects of clinic operations.
- Oversee the efficient and effective functioning of Clinic in the absence of clinic director following established protocols and using the AFC Policies and Procedures Manual as a guideline.
- Demonstrate nursing skills in patient assessment, taking patient history, triaging patients, onsite POCT, administering vaccinations, minor treatments under the direction of the clinic provider (neb treatments, ear irrigation) providing patient education and medication instructions.
- Be available to support the nursing staff in relation to tests performed, referrals to be made, charting systems and other procedural decisions.
- Oversee function of MA/patient care coordinator/admin staff and volunteer staff in absence of Clinic Director.
- Ensure that AFC policies are enforced, especially as they relate to Universal Precautions, waste disposal, collection/handling of laboratory samples, and fire, safety and first-aid policies.
- Be responsible for special assignments and projects as designated by Clinic Director.
- Acknowledge that AFC maintains a policy and procedure manual at all locations and agree to follow the policies and procedures set forth within the manual.
- Performs other duties as may be requested by Americares.
- Connecticut licensed registered nurse with minimum one year of experience working with adults with chronic medical problems.
- Fluency in English and Spanish required.
- Demonstrated clinical skills.
- Proven ability to work compassionately in a fast-paced medical environment with a vulnerable patient population.
- Ability to manage employed and volunteer staff on day to day issues.
- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team inclusive of volunteers.
- Team orientation; balanced focus on personal accountability and team goals.

Americares opened its first clinic in 1994 to expand access to care for the working poor. Over the years, our program has grown to become the largest free clinic network in the state with four locations serving 2,000 patients annually. Today, our clinics in Bridgeport, Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford are the primary source of free medical care for the uninsured in Fairfield County.
