MaineHealth is seeking a dedicated Patient Financial Services Associate II specializing in Hospital Billing. This position offers the flexibility of being fully remote.
Role Overview
This role represents the second tier in the revenue cycle career framework within Patient Financial Services (PFS). The incumbent will manage a defined set of patient accounts, which may encompass accurate billing, training, and/or the resolution of insurance claim denials within specified filing timelines. This ensures the timely completion and closure of accounts within 120 days from the service date. A designated trainer will facilitate the training and auditing requirements of the department. Collaboration within a team-oriented environment is essential, ensuring equitable distribution of workloads.
The associate will conduct thorough account research to ascertain the necessary governmental regulations prior to claim submissions. The role contributes to the overall effectiveness of Patient Financial Services by exhibiting adaptability, teamwork, and cooperation in a High-Performance Work Team (HPWT) setting, while consistently delivering quality results and maintaining high productivity levels. Continuous learning in all facets of Patient Financial Services is encouraged to align with the growth trajectory at MaineHealth.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Education: High School diploma or GED is preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Not applicable.
- Experience: Minimum of 9 months in a relevant healthcare environment; experience in hospital or provider-based billing is advantageous.
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced setting while managing and prioritizing multiple tasks effectively.
- Technical Skills: Proficient keyboard and data entry skills are required. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet communication is essential, along with the capability to work proficiently with electronic monitoring and systems.
- Experience or aptitude for problem-solving and working towards solutions independently or as part of a team is necessary. For the trainer role, prior experience or the ability to be trained in auditing and training is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least one role (billing, collections, or healthcare accounts receivables training) for a single payer (hospital) or specialty (physician) is expected.
- Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with hospital or provider-based billing is preferred.
- Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD9/10 coding is essential.
