Position Summary:

The Library Services Technician is responsible for providing essential support within the Access Services Department. This role involves utilizing the integrated library system (SirsiDynix) to manage the circulation of materials, assisting patrons both in-person and over the phone, performing shelving duties, maintaining stack organization, and conducting inventory of the physical collection. The technician will also ensure a welcoming and orderly environment for all patrons. Additional responsibilities include supporting library events and assisting the Access Services Librarian in training and supervising student employees.

Key tasks will encompass managing reserves and interlibrary loans, as well as retrieving items for faculty, staff, and students. The technician will compile and analyze library usage statistics.

Under the guidance of the Access Services Librarian, the Library Services Technician plays a vital role in enhancing the accessibility of library materials.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring all patrons receive prompt and courteous assistance.
  • Handle desk duties at the Access Services or Information Service desks as assigned.

Responsibilities include organizing and reshelving returned items such as books, DVDs, and audiobooks; ensuring shelves are in proper order and identifying missing materials; managing extraneous items left on shelves; and shifting materials as necessary.

  • Conduct circulation activities including checking materials in and out, placing holds, renewing items, registering new library users, and addressing inquiries regarding fines, fees, and lost materials using the SirsiDynix Automated Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Assist patrons in utilizing self-check machines, navigating the online catalog, locating course reserve items, and accessing library databases.
  • Clarify library circulation policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, providing basic informational support in person or via telephone.
  • Perform clerical tasks as directed by the supervisor to support departmental functions and special projects.
  • Compile and prepare various departmental statistical reports as assigned.
  • Facilitate interlibrary loan processes by managing requests through the TRLNDirect and Illiad Systems, as well as the SirsiDynix Workflow.
