Position Overview: Senior Medical Science Liaison - Cardiorenal

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) acts as a key scientific authority and collaborator, representing Bayer within the medical community by sharing and educating on scientific data related to Bayer's product offerings throughout their lifecycle. The MSL forges proactive, long-term scientific and strategic partnerships with influential healthcare providers, stakeholders, and major medical associations, ensuring that the medical community has access to essential scientific information.

Key Responsibilities:

Scientific Expertise

  • Complete the core training curriculum and achieve MSL and Therapeutic Area (TA) Certification;
  • Commit to ongoing learning and development, ensuring proficiency in franchise data, MSL roles, and soft skills;
  • Maintain professional licensure with continuing education documentation as required;
  • Exhibit extensive knowledge in therapeutic areas, surpassing that of peers and possessing experience in multiple therapeutic domains;
  • Coordinate and lead TA updates, team discussions, and training initiatives;
  • Attend and provide insights from local, regional, and national medical conferences;
  • Facilitate team coverage for major meetings, ensuring high-quality reporting;
  • Identify educational gaps and propose recommendations for resource development.

External Engagement

  • Build strong, long-term relationships with Thought Leaders and key stakeholders by providing up-to-date scientific information aligned with business strategies;
  • Engage proactively with TLs, HCPs, research sites, and other stakeholders, seeking out emerging Thought Leader groups;
  • Utilize knowledge of US and Global strategies to inform local business unit strategies;
  • Drive medical strategy by translating local plans into actionable engagement strategies;
  • Approach accounts strategically, ensuring alignment with medical objectives;
  • Support speaker training and evaluate scientific merit;
  • Coordinate Advisory Board meetings and other Bayer programs.

Education and Communication

  • Deliver educational presentations to external audiences and stakeholders, identifying opportunities for education within the business unit;
  • Provide timely, accurate responses to medical inquiries in collaboration with Medical Communications;
  • Adhere to SOP and FDA guidelines for scientific information distribution;
  • Prepare and present data to internal stakeholders, including Medical Affairs and Commercial partners.

Research Support

  • Support research initiatives aligned with medical and brand strategies, including investigator-initiated research;
  • Engage with stakeholders for Bayer-sponsored clinical trials, assisting with data collection and study support.

Insight Generation

  • Generate relevant insights from HCPs and stakeholders to enhance understanding of the treatment landscape;
  • Document and communicate insights to inform strategies and tactics.

Collaboration

  • Foster strategic partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders as part of the business unit team;
  • Lead project teams and initiate best practice discussions within the MSL team;
  • Act as a mentor for MSL colleagues.

New Approaches to Working

  • Champion innovative working methods and systems, training the Field Medical team to leverage these tools;
  • Ensure timely and compliant documentation of customer activities and administrative responsibilities;
  • Utilize data analytics to maximize customer engagement opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BA/BS Degree;
  • Experience in a scientific or healthcare setting, or pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs, Sales, or Clinical Development;
  • MSL experience is essential;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to evaluate medical literature critically;
  • Willingness to travel and manage a demanding schedule.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in medical or health sciences (e.g., M.D., PhD, PharmD) or equivalent experience;
  • Knowledge of FDA and OIG requirements;
  • Minimum of 1 year MSL experience or 2 years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
