Position: Senior Medical Science Liaison - Cardiorenal

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) acts as a credible scientific authority and collaborator, representing Bayer within the medical community by sharing and educating on scientific data related to Bayer's offerings throughout their lifecycle. The MSL forges proactive, long-term scientific and strategic relationships with key healthcare providers, stakeholders, and significant medical associations, ensuring access to essential scientific information and facilitating the exchange of pertinent data within the medical community.

Key Responsibilities:

The main duties of the Senior Medical Science Liaison include:

Scientific Proficiency

  • Complete essential training and MSL and Therapeutic Area (TA) Certification;
  • Commit to ongoing learning and development (Franchise data, MSL role, Soft Skills, Personal Development);
  • Maintain professional licensure with CEU documentation where applicable;
  • Possess in-depth knowledge within the therapeutic area, surpassing peers and/or having Medical Affairs experience across multiple therapeutic areas;
  • Coordinate and lead TA updates, team discussions, and training initiatives;
  • Attend and report on relevant local, regional, and national medical conferences;
  • Oversee team participation in major meetings, ensuring high-quality reporting;
  • Identify educational gaps and recommend resources or initiatives for development.

Engagement with Healthcare Providers and Stakeholders

  • Establish and nurture long-term relationships with Thought Leaders and key stakeholders by providing up-to-date scientific information aligned with US, Global, and Area Business Unit strategies;
  • Engage proactively with TLs, HCPs, research sites, and other stakeholders as per defined engagement plans;
  • Utilize knowledge of US and Global strategies to develop and implement local Area Business Unit strategies;
  • Drive medical strategy by translating local medical plans into actionable TL and stakeholder engagement strategies;
  • Approach accounts strategically, using key metrics to align with territory plans and medical objectives;
  • Support speaker training and evaluation in compliance with medical standards;
  • Coordinate Advisory Board meetings and other Bayer programs.

Educational Outreach

  • Deliver educational presentations to external audiences and stakeholders;
  • Provide timely, accurate, and balanced responses to medical inquiries in collaboration with Medical Communications;
  • Adhere to SOP and FDA guidelines for the distribution of scientific information;
  • Prepare and present data to internal stakeholders, including MA and Commercial partners.

Research Support

  • Assist in research projects aligned with medical and brand strategies, including facilitating investigator-initiated research;
  • Support clinical trial teams and engage with stakeholders for Bayer-sponsored clinical trials.

Insight Generation

  • Generate relevant insights from HCPs and stakeholders to deepen understanding of the treatment landscape;
  • Document and communicate insights to inform and enhance strategies.

Collaboration

  • Engage in strategic partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders as part of the Area Business Unit team;
  • Lead project teams or task forces within the Franchise Medical Team;
  • Initiate best practice discussions for the MSL team and internal partners.

Data-Driven Engagement

  • Champion new working methods, including platforms and systems, to enhance Field Medical team capabilities;
  • Complete all required documentation and administrative responsibilities accurately and timely;
  • Analyze interaction analytics related to TL engagement to optimize stakeholder plans;
  • Utilize data to maximize customer engagement opportunities.

Candidate Profile:

Success in this role will be driven by the demonstration of Bayer's core values. The ideal candidate will possess:

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree;
  • Experience in a scientific or healthcare clinical setting, or pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, or Clinical Development;
  • MSL experience;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Ability to critically evaluate medical literature;
  • Willingness to travel 50% or more.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in medical or health sciences (e.g., M.D., PhD, PharmD) or equivalent experience;
  • Knowledge of FDA and OIG requirements;
  • Minimum of 1 year MSL experience or 2 years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
