Position Overview: Senior Medical Science Liaison - Cardiorenal

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) acts as a credible scientific authority and collaborator, representing Bayer within the medical community by sharing and educating on scientific data concerning Bayer's offerings throughout their lifecycle. The MSL forges proactive, long-term scientific and strategic partnerships with key healthcare providers, influential stakeholders, and major medical organizations, ensuring that these entities have access to pertinent scientific information while facilitating the exchange of vital data within the medical community.

Key Responsibilities:

Scientific Expertise

  • Complete the foundational training curriculum and achieve MSL and Therapeutic Area (TA) Certification;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and development, including Franchise data, MSL responsibilities, soft skills, and personal growth;
  • Maintain professional licensure with CEU documentation as necessary;
  • Exhibit in-depth knowledge within the therapeutic area, surpassing that of peers, or possess Medical Affairs experience across multiple therapeutic domains;
  • Lead TA updates, team discussions, and training initiatives such as journal clubs;
  • Attend and provide insights from local, regional, and national medical conferences and other significant meetings;
  • Coordinate team representation at major regional or national events, ensuring high-quality meeting reports;
  • Identify educational gaps and recommend resources or initiatives for development.

External Engagement with Healthcare Providers and Stakeholders

  • Establish and nurture long-term relationships with Thought Leaders and key stakeholders through the dissemination of current scientific information in line with US, Global, and Area Business Unit strategies;
  • Engage proactively with TLs, HCPs, research sites, associations, and other stakeholders according to established engagement plans;
  • Utilize knowledge of US and Global strategies to inform local Area Business Unit approaches;
  • Translate local medical plans into actionable TL and stakeholder engagement strategies, collaborating with cross-functional teams;
  • Approach accounts and stakeholders strategically, ensuring alignment with territory plans and medical objectives;
  • Support speaker training and the evaluation of scientific merit in compliance with regulations;
  • Coordinate Advisory Board meetings or other Bayer programs as needed.

Education and Communication

  • Deliver educational presentations to external audiences and stakeholders, identifying opportunities for education within the assigned Area Business Unit;
  • Provide timely, accurate, and balanced responses to medical inquiries in collaboration with Medical Communications;
  • Adhere to SOP and FDA guidelines for the distribution of scientific information;
  • Ensure compliance with SOP and guidelines for all external interactions;
  • Prepare and present data to internal audiences, including Medical Affairs and Commercial partners.

Research Support

  • Assist in research projects aligned with medical and brand strategies, including facilitating investigator-initiated research (IIR) and identifying research sites;
  • Support clinical trial teams and engage with stakeholders for Bayer-sponsored clinical trials, assisting with data collection and study support as appropriate.

Insights Generation

  • Generate relevant insights from HCPs and stakeholders to enhance understanding of patients, HCPs, and the treatment landscape, documenting and communicating findings to inform strategies;
  • Report on new compound developments and potential collaborations as needed in alignment with corporate strategy.

Collaboration and Best Practices

  • Engage in compliant strategic partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders as part of the Area Business Unit team;
  • Present to internal audiences, including Therapeutic Area Medical Affairs or commercial partners;
  • Lead project teams or task forces within the Franchise Medical Team;
  • Initiate discussions on best practices for the MSL team and internal partners;
  • Act as a mentor for MSLs as appropriate.

Innovative Approaches to Data Management

  • Champion new methodologies, systems, and capabilities within the organization, training and empowering the Field Medical team;
  • Complete all required documentation, training, and administrative tasks in a timely and compliant manner;
  • Review and interpret interaction analytics related to TL engagement, taking necessary actions to execute stakeholder plans;
  • Utilize data and analytics to maximize customer engagement opportunities;
  • Leverage evolving platforms to ensure a data-driven approach to customer engagement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BA/BS Degree;
  • Experience in a scientific or healthcare clinical setting, or pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, or Clinical Development;
  • MSL experience is essential;
  • Demonstrated project management skills;
  • Proficient in communicating scientific information;
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and ability to critically evaluate medical literature;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Established capacity to build productive relationships internally and externally;
  • Willingness to travel over 50% and manage a demanding schedule;
  • Valid Driver's License and eligibility to drive a company vehicle.

Preferred:

  • Advanced terminal degree in medical or health sciences (e.g., M.D., PhD, PharmD) or equivalent experience;
  • Familiarity with FDA and OIG requirements;
  • A minimum of 1 year MSL experience or 2 years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
