Overview:
The Talbot County Government's Emergency Medical Services is dedicated to delivering essential pre-hospital medical assistance to patients experiencing critical health emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide necessary medical interventions for individuals who are ill, injured, or recovering.

This includes actions taken at the emergency scene, during transport to medical facilities, or as directed by established medical protocols and consultations.

Ensure patient stabilization at the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) level.
Assist in the safe extraction of individuals from hazardous situations.
Conduct emergency medical assessments and first aid interventions.

Administer basic life support techniques, including wound care, bleeding control, spinal stabilization, airway management, suctioning, and the application of MAST, among other critical skills.

Maintain a thorough understanding of Maryland's medical protocols as they pertain to the aforementioned responsibilities.
Complete and submit all relevant reports and documentation as required by state, county, and local regulations.
Propose procedural improvements based on field experiences and qualifications.
Evaluate and test new medical equipment, providing feedback on performance.
Engage in ongoing education and specialized training.
Facilitate rehabilitation efforts at emergency scenes.
Support fire departments with medical assistance.
Operate emergency vehicles in compliance with established driving protocols and operational guidelines.
Efficiently utilize maps and gather necessary information for effective emergency response.
Assume responsibility for the upkeep of medical equipment and facilities while on duty.

Conduct quality assurance evaluations of both full-time and part-time EMTs and assist in the review of Basic Life Support (BLS) providers as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
This role requires a skilled and responsible individual holding certification as a Maryland EMT. A self-driven and accountable person capable of managing administrative tasks. Under limited supervision, execute responsibilities without detailed instructions while adhering to specific guidelines and reporting to Paramedic shift leaders. Performance will be assessed periodically based on established objectives.

Ability to undertake physically demanding tasks associated with the role.
Possess excellent moral character.

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to inquiries from healthcare professionals, supervisors, patients, and the public.

Demonstrate logical reasoning skills applicable to a variety of practical challenges.
Exhibit sound judgment in rapidly analyzing situations, often under stress.
Interact with individuals and circumstances in a manner that respects the rights of others.
Possess substantial knowledge of Maryland Medical Protocols.
Proficient in operating personal computers and office equipment.
If transporting a Priority 3 patient, the EMT will provide care as the designated provider.

If the EMT holds an Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification, they will be expected to perform ALS responsibilities as outlined in the Paramedic job description.


Physical Requirements:


Regular use of hands for manipulation and operation of equipment, as well as the ability to reach, pull, push, talk, and hear.

Frequent requirements to sit, climb, stoop, run, kneel, and walk while carrying weight.
Occasional activities include jumping from heights, crawling, and utilizing the sense of smell.
Regular lifting and/or moving of objects exceeding 100 pounds is necessary.
Must possess good close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus. Vision correction with glasses or contact lenses is acceptable.
Must not experience claustrophobia.

Required Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver's License with no more than three current points
Maryland Emergency Medical Technician Certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification
Basic Trauma Life Support Certification is highly recommended
