Role Summary:

The Lead Technician for Sterile Processing Operations is responsible for overseeing the Sterile Processing department's daily functions and ensuring compliance with established protocols. This role involves managing the workflow of the team, ensuring the proper decontamination and processing of medical instruments and equipment utilized within the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist management in establishing work priorities for the shift, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Monitor team compliance with established protocols and quality assurance measures; provide corrective training and documentation as necessary.
  • Facilitate the orientation and training of new sterile processing staff and other personnel as required.
  • Act as the primary liaison for the Operating Room in the absence of the department manager or coordinator.
  • Oversee the decontamination of equipment and carts returned from various units.
  • Retrieve soiled instruments from nursing units and ensure proper processing.
  • Manage the decontamination of instruments received from both internal and external sources.
  • Prepare and seal decontamination boxes as needed.
  • Order necessary supplies to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Assemble soft goods for sterilization processes.
  • Restock crash carts and isolation carts as required.
  • Conduct Bowie Dick and biological testing, documenting results accurately.
  • Count, wrap, and process instruments for sterilization, ensuring accurate documentation of processing information.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment daily.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member, responding to the dynamic needs of patients and the unit as directed.
  • Provide support and constructive feedback to colleagues, fostering a culture of care and healing.
  • Encourage and support professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach for less experienced staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, striving for excellence in service delivery.
  • Adhere to all relevant codes and regulations, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all protected health information.
  • Ensure accuracy in medication processes, including transport and storage.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma and a minimum of two years of experience as a Sterile Processing technician are required.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing from a recognized organization is mandatory.
