Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled ECMO Specialist Respiratory Therapist to join our team at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan. As a key member of our respiratory therapy department, you will be responsible for providing critical care to pediatric patients requiring ECMO therapy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, troubleshoot, and monitor patients on prolonged life support equipment
  • Perform duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, including preparing ECMO machines for patient placement and evaluating equipment and supplies
  • Monitor patients receiving ECMO treatment and equipment, adjusting rates of blood and gas flow as needed
  • Assess patient status and perform trials off ECMO, addressing problems and re-establishing therapy as necessary
  • Maintain departmental patient records and forward information to national registry
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and maintain optimal functioning through regular servicing and safety checks
Requirements
  • Graduation from an AMA/CoARC approved Respiratory Care program
  • Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care and current CHM ECMO certification
  • Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist by the State of Michigan
  • Two to three years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with experience in Critical Care preferred
  • BCLS certification required, ACLS and PALS certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • ECMO background and skills related to the care of critical infants on life support equipment
  • Leadership skills, including decision-making, coaching, teaching, and counseling
  • Physical stamina for frequent standing, walking, and lifting and positioning of patients
  • Excellent observational skills to judge changes in patient condition and assess emergency situations
