Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan. As a Respiratory Therapist - ECMO Specialist, you will be responsible for providing critical care to pediatric patients requiring ECMO therapy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, troubleshoot, and monitor patients on prolonged life support equipment, including ECMO machines.
  • Perform duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, including preparing patients for ECMO therapy, evaluating patient status, and adjusting treatment as needed.
  • Assess patient conditions and operate all respiratory therapy and bedside pulmonary function equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including patient data and ECMO circuit performance.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an AMA/CoARC approved Respiratory Care program.
  • Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care and current CHM ECMO certification.
  • Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist by the State of Michigan.
  • Two to three years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with experience in Critical Care preferred.
  • BCLS certification required; ACLS and PALS certification preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ECMO background and skills related to the care of critical infants on life support equipment.
  • Leadership skills, including coaching, teaching, and counseling abilities.
  • Physical stamina necessary for frequent standing, walking, and lifting and positioning of patients.
