Description of Work

Under the guidance of experienced personnel, participates in an accredited police training program to acquire the essential knowledge, skills, and physical fitness required for law enforcement duties. This role involves various responsibilities associated with police service.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.

2. No prior work experience is required.

3. Candidates must be at least 20 years old at the time of appointment.

4. U.S. Citizenship is required.

5. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary.

6. Candidates must not be certified or eligible for certification by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).

Physical Conditions / Work Environment

While fulfilling the responsibilities of a recruit, individuals may encounter various conditions, including adverse weather, extreme temperatures, elevated locations, hazardous materials, and other risks associated with crime or accident scenes. The work environment may vary from quiet to very loud, and recruits may face emotional challenges, including interactions with individuals in distress.

Physical fitness, strength, and agility are essential to meet the demands of law enforcement work, as assessed through a physical agility test and medical examination according to MCOLES standards. Vision requirements must also meet MCOLES guidelines, including color and peripheral vision.

Psychological fitness for law enforcement is evaluated through a psychological assessment as mandated by MCOLES.

- Written Test - Pass/Fail
- Oral Examination - 100%

Selected candidates will undergo a medical examination and drug screening prior to employment. Offers of employment are contingent upon the results of these evaluations. Background checks may also be conducted, and offers are subject to the findings.
