Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Portland Public Schools. As a Custodian, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our schools, ensuring a healthy and productive learning environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Custodial Team to ensure all buildings are clean and well-maintained
  • Prioritize cleaning tasks, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, washing windows, and cleaning sumps
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs, such as changing lights and fixing minor issues
  • Work with school staff to set up buildings for after-school activities, special events, and meetings
  • Aid staff with special projects, such as moving heavy equipment
  • Be available for after-hours emergency assistance, if needed
  • Participate in building-wide Equity initiatives that promote the PPS mission
Requirements
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English
  • Capacity to understand and follow written and oral directions
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse employees and teams
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
