We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Portland Public Schools. As a Custodian, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our schools, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Custodial Team to ensure the building is clean and well-maintained.
  • Prioritize the cleaning of different types of rooms, including restrooms, kitchens, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
  • Perform minor maintenance and general custodial duties, such as changing lights and cleaning sumps.
  • Work with school staff to set up the building for after-school activities, special events, and meetings.
  • Aid staff with special projects, such as moving heavy or bulky items.
  • Be available for after-hours emergency assistance to the building, if needed.
Requirements
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions.
  • Good judgment and communication skills to interact with the building Principal, students, teachers, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse employees and perform consistently with a customer service model.
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, walk, carry, and lift for eight hours per day.
