AM Ortega, a prominent construction firm operating in Southern California, is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced CIVIL ESTIMATOR WITH A FOCUS ON GRADING AND INFRASTRUCTURE to join our team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Developing precise cost estimates for projects within their designated categories.
  • Assessing labor and equipment expenses.
  • Generating accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing for materials.
  • Requesting quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Analyzing bid documents and evaluating project risks.
  • Understanding project logistics and timelines.
  • Comparing and evaluating competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Collaborating with the estimating and project management teams to review quotes and estimates.
  • Preparing estimates at various stages of project completion.
  • Conducting pre-construction meetings with clients, owners, subcontractors, and engineers as needed.
  • Managing ongoing projects awarded based on prepared estimates.
  • Overseeing project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, notices, and client communications.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.
  • This role is within the Estimating department, with opportunities for advancement for those looking to grow into more responsible positions.
QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in technical methodologies for preparing construction cost estimates.
  • Experience in Heavy Civil and Site Development, Grading, Paving, and Concrete Work.
  • Familiarity with Storm Drain and Drainage Systems.
  • Knowledge of Fencing and Masonry.
  • Proficiency in Agtek Earthworks 4D software.
  • Experience with on-screen take-off software such as Blue Beam or Plan Swift.
  • Familiarity with HeavyBid software is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Primavera P-6 Scheduling.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Standard English.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A positive contributor to the work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A four-year degree from an accredited institution or eight years of relevant work experience in a similar field is required.
  • Preferred degrees include Business Management, Project Management, Communications, Construction Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience with public utilities in Southern California is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Heavy Construction Software Suite - HeavyBid is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Sage 300/Timberline and/or Sage Paperless is beneficial.
  • Experience with Agtek or Autodesk software is a plus.
