Key Responsibilities- Manage Patient Flow: Greet patients promptly and warmly, maintaining a clean and welcoming waiting area. Verify patient demographics and confirm referrals or pre-authorizations as necessary.
- Communicate Effectively: Develop and maintain working relationships with coworkers, providers, and other agencies. Address patients and families in a cheerful and customer-focused manner, demonstrating awareness of cultural differences.
- Patient Identification: Verify patient identity using two identifiers and place an ID band on the patient as required. Monitor patient wait times and maintain open communication about delays and exam status.
- Confidentiality and Privacy: Maintain confidentiality of patient records and adhere to HIPAA guidelines. Operate the hospital information system to ensure patient and hospital confidentiality.
- Telephone and General Duties: Answer telephones in a prompt and courteous manner, attempting to resolve inquiries without transferring calls. Perform general clerical duties, including order entry, system downtime recovery, and preparation of exam-related materials.
- Mail Processing and Faxes: Operate office equipment, including fax machines and copiers. Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail and faxes daily, following practice guidelines.
- Leadership and Registration: Take responsibility for teaching and developing procedures and policies. Register patients, collect and verify demographic and financial information, and secure cash drawers according to departmental procedures.
- Insurance Verification: Request proof of insurance, verify coverage, and initiate contact for financial counseling as necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 6 months of experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Medical terminology, keyboarding, and Microsoft Office skills required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality and discretion.
