Job Summary: Speech-language specialists are responsible for the prevention, evaluation, and intervention services for students facing challenges in language, speech, voice, and fluency.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: This section outlines the essential functions performed by the position. Regular and reliable attendance is expected.

1:

Designs and implements evidence-based interventions tailored for individual students and groups, modifying strategies based on student performance and current best practices in speech-language pathology.


2:

Creates and executes suitable Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that reflect students' strengths and needs.


3:

Conducts both formal and informal assessments, observing students in educational settings and selecting appropriate evaluation methods based on individual requirements.


4:

Completes all necessary procedural documentation for students, including assessment reports, therapy data collection, IEPs, re-evaluation documents, progress reports, and Medicaid documentation.


5:

Collaborates with various stakeholders, including general education teachers, exceptional education teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, vision teachers, and school counselors, to manage speech-language disorders and their impact on literacy and communication skills.


6:

Analyzes and interprets data to make informed recommendations regarding the necessity and intensity of speech-language services.


7:

Participates in student support teams as appropriate, providing recommendations for speech and language interventions and conducting screenings when necessary.


8:

Organizes and maintains schedules for speech and language therapy, instructional services, IEP meetings, assessments, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Education: Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: Tennessee Department of Education Teacher's License (Practitioner/Professional School Services Provider)

Experience: Preferred
