Job Summary:
The Lead Speech and Language Therapist plays a pivotal role in supporting speech-language pathologists (SLPs) assigned across various educational settings. This position focuses on prevention, assessment, and intervention strategies for students facing challenges in language, speech, voice, and fluency.

Exceptional Education Services

Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Director of Exceptional Education

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties are essential to the role and may evolve as per organizational needs:


1. Intervention Support:

Collaborates with district SLPs to develop and implement effective intervention strategies tailored to student performance and established best practices in speech pathology.


2. IEP Development:

Assists SLPs and special education teams in crafting and executing individualized education programs (IEPs) that reflect students' unique strengths and requirements.


3. Assessment Management:

Guides SLPs in the administration of formal assessments, interpretation of student data, and application of relevant educational guidelines to determine service eligibility.


4. Training and Documentation:

Provides training and support to SLPs regarding necessary procedural documentation, including assessment reports, therapy data, IEPs, and progress reports.


5. Stakeholder Collaboration:

Engages with various stakeholders, including educators and specialists, to manage speech-language disorders and their influence on literacy and communication skills.


6. Leadership and Professional Development:

Participates in leadership initiatives aimed at planning and delivering professional development on topics related to speech pathology.


7. Evaluation Responsibilities:

Conducts evaluations for district SLPs as part of the performance assessment process.


Qualifications:
Education:

A Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology is required.


Licenses:

A valid Tennessee Department of Education Teacher's License is mandatory.


Experience:

Prior experience in speech-language pathology or exceptional education is highly preferred.


Skills:

Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt and organize effectively.


Physical Demands:

The role may require light physical activity, including standing or walking, and the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force regularly.
