About the Role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a highly skilled Senior Architect to join our team. As a Senior Architect, you will be responsible for leading complex projects and providing expert guidance to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation of contract documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Develop and implement project plans, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members, promoting professional development and growth.
  • Conduct site observations, record existing conditions, and report on construction progress.
  • Manage project costs, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, officials, and contractors, ensuring clear understanding of project requirements and expectations.
  • Prepare reports, including feasibility studies, condition reports, and recommendations.
  • Perform building code reviews and prepare applications, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Make major design decisions, considering spatial, aesthetic, and material aspects.
  • Document project progress through correspondence, calculations, and memos.
  • Follow projects through approvals and construction, ensuring timely completion and quality delivery.
  • Initiate contact with clients and officials, exercising professional judgment in contractual liability matters.
  • Make public presentations, showcasing project expertise and promoting company reputation.
  • Account for individual project involvement, including scheduling, scope, role, and budget.
  • Handle problems and questions as they arise during construction, ensuring prompt resolution and client satisfaction.
  • Monitor project budgets, making adjustments as needed to maintain on-budget delivery.
  • Provide leadership to teams performing sequences of tasks, motivating team members to meet projected milestones.
  • Maintain good client relations, following up on qualifying leads and contributing to business development.
  • Assist in proposal preparation and presentations, leveraging marketing knowledge to promote company services.
  • Identify and recruit capable candidates for the growing architectural team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture from a NAAB-accredited program.
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience (12 years preferred), with completion of a master's degree in a related field potentially substituting for one year of experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
  • Knowledge of estimating project needs and translating them into budget hours and costs.
  • Capacity to devise new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Previous consulting experience preferred.
  • California Registered Architect or ability to obtain.
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance.
