Position Overview:

The Inpatient Care Management Supervisor is accountable for providing leadership and oversight for the designated Care Management departments. This role is essential in facilitating an efficient Mercy Care Management Model that supports high-quality patient care, ensures patient safety, and addresses financial considerations. Responsibilities include:
  • Establishing expectations, formulating plans, and managing processes to evaluate, enhance, and improve quality, patient outcomes, and Care Management metrics.
  • Overseeing key operational elements such as budget management, Care Management metrics, workforce planning, and customer service.
  • Collaborating with Care Management and facility leadership to develop performance improvement indicators and best practices, identifying clinical and operational enhancement opportunities.
  • Communicating performance improvement indicators and best practices with Care Management colleagues.
  • Creating and supervising action plans to implement identified improvements, aiming to resolve issues, enhance effectiveness, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Reporting on Care Management performance, statistical data, and the outcomes of action plans to leadership.
  • Providing direction and oversight for the assigned inpatient Care Management department.
  • Working with Care Management and facility leadership to assess and revise departmental strategies to meet organizational and customer needs.
  • Acting as a resource in care management, discharge planning, social work, and utilization management as necessary.
  • Managing the delivery of non-coverage letters and other communications to inpatients.
  • Evaluating patient case costs and length of stay reports.
  • Reviewing reports on the performance of Care Management colleagues and providing constructive feedback.
  • Directing Care Management activities related to accreditation processes and ensuring compliance with risk management and regulatory standards.
  • Identifying potential risk management or clinical quality issues and addressing them through collaboration with healthcare team members.
  • Interpreting standards from accrediting agencies, state and federal regulations, and third-party payer contracts for Care Management staff.
  • Maintaining accurate records of Care Management staff, including licensure, CPR certification, and continuing education documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in clinical social work, case management, or a related field.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) is required; Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) is preferred.
  • Certifications: LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, assessment, time management, critical thinking, and advanced computer skills are essential. Excellent customer service and the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels are required. Knowledge of InterQual criteria is preferred.
