Overview

Under supervision, this role encompasses a range of public information tasks, including the creation and composition of press releases, talking points, presentations, fact sheets, and social media content in both English and Spanish, along with graphic design responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts research, authors, and revises content for brochures, flyers, posters, press releases, media advisories, photo captions, social media posts, and signage tailored for Spanish-speaking community members; translates existing materials from English to Spanish.
  • Creates visually appealing brochures, flyers, posters, and other communication materials to effectively engage Spanish-speaking audiences; plans, designs, illustrates, edits, and produces a variety of communications using graphic design software.
  • Captures photographs to support public relations initiatives; organizes and maintains a digital photo library and provides photo selections as required.
  • Oversees, monitors, and manages the organization’s external and internal web content and design in collaboration with other public relations personnel and organizational units.
  • Assists in the planning, administration, and oversight of the public relations budget.
  • Coordinates and organizes community outreach initiatives sponsored by the organization; staffs special events supported by the organization; ensures bilingual resources are available for outreach activities.
  • Delivers educational and informational presentations in both English and Spanish; serves as a translator for presentations; arranges for speakers at educational institutions or public events; develops educational resources.
  • Prepares and addresses public inquiries and drafts responses for media inquiries through research and formulation of appropriate replies in both English and Spanish.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in a standard office setting and requires the use of typical office equipment, including computers. Some responsibilities, such as attending community outreach events or presentations, may occur outside the office and necessitate the operation of a vehicle.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of public relations and communication strategies.
  • Familiarity with various mass communication channels, including digital and social media, print media, television, and radio.
  • Awareness of governmental structures, functions, and administrative processes.
  • Knowledge of photography principles, including the production and development of photographic materials.
  • Basic proficiency in graphic design software utilized for creating communication materials.
  • Capability to undertake and complete complex public information assignments efficiently and within deadlines.
  • Ability to research, write, edit, and translate written documents.
  • Skill in collaborating effectively with organizational officials, resource personnel, and media representatives.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication in both English and Spanish.

Essential Requirements

Fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish (bilingual).

Minimum Qualifications

A degree from a four-year accredited college or university in journalism, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.

Substitution Policy

Professional experience in journalism, public information, or public relations may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.

Promotional Criteria

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a closely related discipline.
  • One year of service with the organization in roles such as Graphic Artist, Investigator, Legal Assistant, Senior Administrative Specialist, Administrative Assistant, Human Resources Assistant, Accounting Clerk III, Accounting Associate, or Secretary; or two years of such service as an Administrative Specialist.
  • Civil service status in one of the aforementioned classifications.
