Atrium Health Mercy is a full-service community hospital, specializing in senior care and complex surgical procedures including foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee surgery, bariatric surgery, and women's pelvic health.

Unit Overview:
2-North features a 16-bed medical-surgical telemetry/observation unit and an 11-bed detox unit.

Common Diagnoses Include:
- New diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus
- Chest Pain; Rule Out Stroke
- Abdominal Pain
- Gastrointestinal Bleed
- Detoxification
- Suicidal Ideation
- Altered Mental Status

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist provides professional nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with established policies and procedures under the guidance of supervisory staff. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe work environment and executing all job-related tasks safely.

The nurse will uphold clinical and professional competency relevant to the age, culture, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patients served.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collect data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health or situation.
- Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
- Establish expected outcomes for an individualized care plan.
- Develop a plan that outlines strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
- Implement the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and employ strategies to promote health and safety.
- Evaluate progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
- Practice in a manner that aligns with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Delegate care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with legal and policy guidelines.
- Promote shared governance and engage in decision-making activities that enhance clinical outcomes.
- Pursue knowledge and skills that reflect current nursing practices.
- Integrate evidence and research findings into practice.
- Contribute to the advancement of quality nursing practice.
- Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.

- Assess personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines.

Physical Requirements:
Work involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is required. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity and critical thinking skills. Quick responsiveness to changes in patient and unit conditions is essential. Physical abilities testing may be required, with additional department-specific physical requirements identified by the department leader.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is necessary. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated by the department manager.
