Key Responsibilities

The Aircraft Mechanic II (SMM) will be responsible for executing a comprehensive range of aircraft sheet metal tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Disassembling, modifying, repairing, and reassembling intricate aircraft metal components and systems, such as bulkheads, airframes, and fuel tanks.
  • Analyzing and assessing structural damage to metal systems, developing patterns through parallel and radial line techniques.
  • Fabricating, installing, and repairing a variety of components using diverse metals including stainless steel, copper, and aluminum.
  • Replacing sections and patching existing systems, shaping and forming metals for components with complex geometries.
  • Utilizing various assembly methods, ensuring compliance with appearance and strength standards, as well as critical tolerances.

As a prerequisite for employment, candidates must successfully complete a certification skills examination administered by FRCSW. The role requires the use of precision measuring instruments such as calipers and protractors.

  • Travel Requirements: The Aircraft Mechanic will be expected to travel to various FRCSW sites within the United States and internationally.
  • Maintenance Responsibilities: Perform Depot Level Maintenance on E2 Type Model Series Naval Aircraft.
  • Execute all tasks related to aircraft sheet metal support for E2 Naval Type Model Series aircraft.
  • Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and components of varying complexity, including flight controls and fuel systems.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to diagnose equipment malfunctions and discrepancies.
  • Restore aircraft components to operational condition through expert technical application.
  • Interpret technical documentation to solve complex issues in aircraft sheet metal structure manufacturing.
  • Manufacture and install new parts, ensuring accurate riveting techniques for durability and structural integrity.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain qualifications in Advanced Skills Management and complete mandatory training.
  • Assist in upholding NAMP Programs and adhere to established safety protocols.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Education/Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Relevant experience or military background as an aircraft airframes or sheet metal mechanic.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Security Clearance.
    • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for accessing U.S. data systems.
    • Ability to pass a NACI, which may include a credit check.
    • Compliance with a drug-free workplace policy, including pre-employment substance testing.
    • Willingness to travel as required.

  • The starting pay will align with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for this position.
  • Salary Range: USD $88,000 - $91,000.
