Job Summary

TOTE Maritime Alaska is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cargo Support Specialist to join our team at our Tacoma Terminal office. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth terminal operations, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and providing exceptional customer service.

Main Responsibilities

  • Pre-approve customers' hazardous shipments and enter relevant data into our back-office system.
  • Coordinate with terminal operations to resolve capacity issues, prioritize cargo, and provide trailer booking counts to assist with planning.
  • Perform southbound notifications and scheduling, coordinate northbound transportation of loads and empties, and reconcile trailer and vehicle totals after sailing.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers, resolving questions and issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor equipment needs and customer pools based on booking levels, releases, trailer tracing, customer profiles, and trans-loads.
  • Coordinate yard activities with the Terminal Manager and Longshoremen.
  • Issue and cancel bookings, set up appointments with customers and vendors, and maintain accurate records.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or better preferred, with one to two years of customer service experience, preferably in transportation.
  • DOT 49CFR Hazmat Carrier Certification and good math skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and prioritization skills, with the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
