Mechanical Systems Operations Supervisor
Become a key player in maintaining a premier facility at the Museum of Science, Boston.
We are in search of a proficient Mechanical Systems Operations Supervisor to manage the daily functions and upkeep of the Museum's mechanical systems, ensuring the comfort and safety of all visitors and personnel. This position entails overseeing staff, managing service requests, and guaranteeing the continuous operation of our mechanical systems across a vast museum property.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee Mechanical Operations: Direct, schedule, and strategize maintenance for all mechanical systems, ensuring uninterrupted operation and emergency readiness.
- Identify & Resolve Issues: Proactively monitor and troubleshoot system challenges, collaborating with contractors and suggesting enhancements to uphold superior performance.
- Set Standards: Implement preventative maintenance initiatives, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and building codes.
- Lead & Develop Team: Recruit, train, and guide a team of mechanical professionals, aligning hiring practices with the Museum's commitment to diversity.
- Manage Projects & Contractors: Oversee multiple projects, coordinate with external contractors, and negotiate agreements to ensure cost-effective, high-quality outcomes.
- Emergency Management: Be available around the clock to respond to emergencies, including power outages, building evacuations, and safety incidents.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education, technical degree, or business certification
- 10+ years of experience in supervising mechanical systems within an institutional or industrial environment
- Extensive knowledge in HVAC, mechanical diagnostics, and repair
- Familiarity with building management systems and technical schematics
- Demonstrated ability to lead personnel and manage building systems
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of building management systems, electrical systems, and life safety operations
- Journeyman Refrigeration License

Work Requirements:
Physical demands include frequent lifting (up to 65 lbs.), pushing and pulling (up to 150 lbs.), as well as walking, standing, and climbing. Availability for emergency on-call duties 24/7 is essential.
