Job Overview

The Museum of Science is seeking a dedicated HVAC Mechanical Systems Supervisor to ensure the effective operation and upkeep of our mechanical systems, providing a safe and comfortable environment for all visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Operations Leadership: Oversee, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities for all mechanical systems, ensuring continuous operation and readiness for emergencies.
  • Issue Diagnosis & Resolution: Proactively monitor and troubleshoot mechanical issues, collaborating with contractors and suggesting enhancements to optimize system performance.
  • Standards Implementation: Manage preventative maintenance initiatives, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and compliance with building codes.
  • Team Supervision & Development: Recruit, train, and mentor a team of mechanical staff, aligning hiring practices with the Museum's commitment to diversity.
  • Project & Contractor Oversight: Direct multiple projects, coordinate with external contractors, and negotiate contracts to achieve high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Maintain availability for emergency situations, including power outages and safety incidents.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education, technical degree, or business certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience in mechanical systems within institutional or industrial environments.
  • Extensive knowledge in HVAC systems, mechanical diagnostics, and repair methodologies.
  • Familiarity with building management systems and technical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead personnel and manage building systems effectively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of building management systems, electrical systems, and life safety protocols.
  • Possession of a Journeyman Refrigeration License.

Physical Requirements:
Physical tasks include frequent lifting (up to 65 lbs.), pushing and pulling (up to 150 lbs.), as well as walking, standing, and climbing. Availability for emergency on-call duties is essential.
