Job Overview

As a key member of our Mother's Market & Kitchen team, the Kitchen/Deli Prep plays a vital role in ensuring the highest quality food products are prepared and presented to our customers. Under the supervision of our Food Service Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to food preparation, including recipe preparation, food storage, and presentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare recipes for established menu items by reviewing the Daily Prep List at the start of each shift.
  • Ensure the freshness and quality of prepared food by adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • Prepare soups, corn bread, biscuits, and other menu items as needed.
  • Store leftover food properly to maintain quality and safety.
  • Test the temperature of food at specified intervals to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Fill the cold line with prepared vegetables and refill as needed.
  • Cover for cooks during 10-minute breaks and lunch breaks as needed.
  • Report equipment and food quality problems to a manager promptly.
  • Inform a manager immediately of product shortages.
  • Follow Mother's safety rules and regulations at all times.
  • Keep all work areas clean and observe Health Department Regulations.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
Qualification Guidelines

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

  • Some experience and/or training in the preparation and serving of hot and/or cold food in a commercial food service setting.
  • Knowledge of cooking techniques used for cold and hot food preparation.
  • Health codes applicable to food service.
  • Proper food storage, rotation, and cleaning techniques.
  • Use of commercial kitchen equipment.

Ability to:

  • Read and understand recipes in English.
  • Have verbal proficiency in the English language and be able to read and write English at a basic level.
  • Read, understand, and follow recipes.
  • Perform simple arithmetic calculations related to food preparation.
  • Work in an accurate manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate with supervisors and co-workers in a manner able to be understood.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for coworkers and customers.
  • Comply with company standards and directives.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Push, carry, and lift large equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds; up to 100 times.
  • Use carts and dollies to carry product from coolers to work station.
  • Bend, stoop, and kneel to retrieve food preparation items.
  • Extend arms overhead and reach for products and boxes.
  • Work both inside and outside in wet and/or dry, hot and/or cold conditions.
  • Perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comply with health code requirements.
Special Requirements
  • Must be available to work various shifts as needed.
