As an integral member of our team, you will deliver essential clinical services and administrative support to ensure high-quality patient care under the guidance of licensed healthcare professionals, including physicians and mid-level practitioners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Gathering patient assessment data, such as height, weight, vital signs, chief complaints, and current medications for evaluation by licensed staff.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including exam treatment and x-ray rooms, as well as the laboratory; sterilizing reusable equipment as necessary.
- Assisting with laboratory procedures by collecting urine samples and preparing blood specimens for reference labs.
- Documenting patient information in medical records, including updates on treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns.
Education:
Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or equivalent military training and experience is preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience in a physician's office is preferred.
Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association, such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, the National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association is required.
Proficiency in computer skills to utilize database systems for job responsibilities is essential, including keyboarding for automated systems, such as electronic medical records.
This position is with Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit, mission-driven health system focused on progress and partnerships. Here, you will find a comprehensive network of award-winning hospitals, Level 1 and 3 trauma centers, a Level 3 NICU, the Institute of Orthopedics and Neurosciences, multi-specialty physician practices, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute.
