About the Position
We are looking for a Performance & Capacity Engineer to join our Capacity & Optimization Engineering team. This role will focus on enhancing site-wide performance and optimizing capacity across all TikTok products and services, as well as our physical infrastructure, including servers and data centers.
The engineer will be responsible for developing and refining global and regional capacity plans to effectively balance service demands, infrastructure capabilities, and business objectives. Utilizing Operations Research methodologies, you will create and enhance mathematical optimization models and solutions.
Your expertise will ensure the efficient operation of our infrastructure resources, supporting billions of user requests and vast amounts of data.
To foster collaboration, our organization currently follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence three days a week, subject to management directives. This model is regularly reviewed and may evolve over time.
Key Responsibilities- Lead infrastructure capacity planning for all TikTok products and services, optimizing server and data center resource allocation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance the synergy between hardware, infrastructure, and software for optimal scaling.
- Design and develop scalable software systems that connect business strategies with technical execution, including service placement and traffic management.
- Oversee significant engineering projects, implementing complex system and process designs.
- Work closely with Finance and business teams to ensure a balance between cost efficiency and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with data center engineering teams to forecast infrastructure needs and influence future data center developments.
- Engage with advanced architecture teams to explore emerging technology trends and innovations.
- Conduct financial modeling and market analysis to inform infrastructure direction and platform recommendations.
- Drive alignment on technology platform strategies across internal teams.
- Recommend process improvements and facilitate effective cross-functional communication to optimize operations.
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in performance capacity or software engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar programming languages, with experience in designing large-scale software systems.
- Strong background in Linux and Operating System Performance, with familiarity in various operating systems.
- Proven track record of leading large engineering initiatives, defining objectives, and inspiring teams.
- 5+ years of industry experience in CPU, Memory, or Storage technology development.
- Understanding of cloud data center architecture and infrastructure.
- Knowledge of server technology and large-scale cloud infrastructure deployment.
- Familiarity with server platform architecture and design for large-scale implementations.
- Insight into storage and memory technologies and industry trends.
- Experience in product planning or project management.
- Ability to build systems and processes from the ground up in ambiguous environments.
- Experience with technical infrastructure planning and distributed systems.
- Background in hardware infrastructure engineering.
