Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Infection Control and Clinical Nurse Educator RN to join our team at Universal Health Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for conducting ongoing surveillance of infections in patients and employees, compiling and interpreting data, and presenting it to the Safety Committee each month.

Responsibilities

As an Infection Control and Clinical Nurse Educator RN, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting ongoing surveillance of infections in patients and employees, vaccination status of patients and employees, compiling and interpreting this data, and presenting it to the Safety Committee each month.
  • Inspecting all on and off-site areas, observing for employee activities to detect any potential infection hazards, and evaluating compliance with standards.
  • Investigating clusters of infections above expected levels, surveying for outbreaks, evaluating and giving recommendations for the prevention of further spread of infection, and disseminating this information to the Infection Control Committee.
  • Educating staff and patients on specific policies and procedures involved in infection control, implementing best practices such as universal precautions, blood-borne pathogens, tuberculosis, etc.
  • Communicating all reportable diseases to the local Health Department in a timely manner.
  • Reviewing and developing written policies and procedures related to infection control.
  • Coordinating with nursing leadership regarding orientation and education of new hired nursing staff.
  • Organizing, scheduling, and presenting continuing education for nurses and other facility personnel on nursing-related topics.
  • Collaborating with nursing leadership and administration on facilitating continuing education training.
  • Tracking and ensuring nursing personnel meet continuing education requirements, including self.
  • Primary educating nursing staff with varying levels of education and experience.
  • Researching and updating methods of training/education to keep nurses current with new developments in their field.
  • Monitoring, reporting, and documenting patients' behavior and physiological status.
  • Administering medications and performing treatments/procedures in compliance with facility and nursing services policies and procedures.
  • Guiding the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the nurse manager and physician.
  • Reporting accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of patients.
  • Covering assigned duties and responsibilities for both RTC and Acute Psychiatric Services as needed.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
  • Excellent verbal, written skills, interpersonal interaction, and educating skills.
  • Excellent skills in organization, research, and mentoring.
  • Flexibility to teach when nurses are available to learn may be evenings/weekends.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Leadership experience is required.
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing with minimum of Bachelor degree. Registered RN. Master degree in nursing preferred. BCLS certification. APIC certified preferred/must obtain APIC certification (CIC) within first year of hire.
  • Licensed by a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact as a Registered Nurse, CPR certification, or able to complete certification.
