Position Overview

As an Entry-Level Engineer, you will be an integral part of our project teams, assisting in the management of various construction initiatives. Reporting directly to a Project Manager or Superintendent, your primary responsibilities will encompass:
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors, while overseeing the work of all trades at the construction site.
  • Administering the estimating and bidding processes, along with monitoring expenses to maintain the project budget.
  • Addressing and clarifying design-related challenges.
  • Identifying and resolving issues in the field, including change orders.
  • Drafting contracts and purchase orders utilizing standardized company language to document all work orders, timelines, anticipated costs, change orders, and technical specifications.
  • Participating in coordination meetings to manage work and labor-related matters.
  • Ensuring that all work meets quality standards and adheres to contract specifications.
  • Implementing project timelines, detailing each task necessary for project completion.
  • Documenting the technical, financial, and personnel elements of each project.
  • Reviewing project drawings, specifications, submittals, and change orders.
  • Monitoring the progress of each trade's work in relation to project phases.
  • Providing on-site support to construction superintendents to ensure compliance with contracts, quality control, and site maintenance.
  • Tracking the completion of project phases against established milestones.
  • Setting expectations for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Documenting each project phase thoroughly.
Essential Skills

Whiting-Turner is dedicated to training qualified candidates to develop the following skills:
  • Fundamental understanding of safety regulations, ANSI standards, local and state building codes, and environmental codes.
  • Basic knowledge of construction processes, practices, and site operations.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Suretrak, or Primavera.
Qualifications

To be considered for the Entry-Level Engineer position, candidates should possess:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Construction Technology.
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Basic business acumen to effectively project and monitor expenses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
  • The ability to interpret technical specifications, blueprints, manuals, and engineering/architectural drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, or collaboration with craft workers.
