Job Title: California Housing Justice Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced California Housing Justice Director to lead our efforts in building a more equitable and just housing system in California. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the housing justice movement and a proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies to address the root causes of housing insecurity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to advance the housing justice movement in California
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community organizations, advocacy groups, and government agencies
  • Collaborate with the Right to the City Alliance team to develop and implement effective advocacy campaigns and policy initiatives
  • Provide leadership and support to the Homes For All California Steering Committee and membership
  • Manage and oversee the development of strategic work-plans to test hypotheses and advance organizational goals
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in housing justice movement leadership and organizing
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies to address housing insecurity
  • Strong understanding of the California housing justice ecosystem and key stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with grassroots community or labor organizing and leadership development
  • Knowledge of tenants rights and history of land use in California
  • Bilingual (written and spoken) in Spanish and English or another non-English language commonly spoken in California

We offer a competitive salary range of $110,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package. This is a full-time, non-exempt salaried position. The funding for this position is currently guaranteed for two years only. The HFA CA Steering Committee fully intends to raise additional funds to ensure this is a long-term position.
