Department: Elementary School

Job Title: Dean of Students

Supervisor: Principal and Assistant Principal

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Background: Master's Degree in Elementary or Secondary Education, or a related field, with a focus on student leadership or mentorship preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of proven success in an educational environment or relevant experience with progressively responsible roles.

  1. Licensure: Must possess a valid North Dakota Teaching License.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expertise in the execution of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
  • Strong student management capabilities concerning scheduling, discipline, and assessment.
  • Leadership, organizational, and management skills, with the ability to initiate and follow through on projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with individuals from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Flexibility in working with students across all developmental stages.
  • Proficient in human relations and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of diverse teaching methodologies that cater to varied student needs.
  • Training in data assessment and interpretation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of a background check in compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Submission to a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Preference will be given to Indian and Veteran candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal in fostering a safe and supportive educational atmosphere.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and external organizations.
  • Support the implementation of the Code of Student Conduct and manage daily minor infractions.
  • Oversee the attendance office operations, including daily attendance tracking and addressing truancy issues.
  • Collaborate with administrators to address complex attendance challenges.
  • Process discipline referrals and communicate consequences to parents and staff.
  • Coordinate in-school suspension and other disciplinary measures.
  • Manage student conflicts and uphold behavioral expectations as per school policy.
  • Develop and supervise schedules for bus, playground, and lunch activities.
  • Assist in interventions related to substance use and conduct investigations as necessary.
  • Monitor and support the school's instructional and extracurricular programs.
  • Analyze issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with staff to enhance family engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Work with administrative staff for emergency preparedness and coordinate with law enforcement during drills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
