Position Overview:
Oversees the management of 24-hour healthcare departments dedicated to delivering patient care services. Ensures that the nursing staff provides high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care while maintaining a patient-centered approach that adheres to local, state, and federal regulations. Responsible for developing and upholding clinical standards of care and practice; manages resource allocation, budgeting, and staff development. Acts as the frontline manager in the Emergency Department, supervising approximately 20-30 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Directs the operations of 24-hour healthcare departments, potentially across multiple locations. Ensures that nursing assistants and staff deliver the highest quality of care in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act and relevant regulatory standards.
  2. Establishes, implements, and maintains standards for patient care and service to meet the expectations of members and internal clients.
  3. Designs and assesses processes aimed at enhancing systems and patient care outcomes throughout the care continuum.
  4. Develops and monitors budgets to ensure the effective use of human and material resources. Evaluates financial performance and identifies strategies to reduce costs while improving care quality.
  5. Determines the optimal staffing mix for the department and develops processes for screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and maintaining staff competency. Ensures ongoing professional development for all team members. Addresses and resolves human resource, employee safety, and risk management issues.
  6. Creates, implements, and oversees departmental policies and procedures that align with organizational goals and objectives.
  7. Supervises the establishment of care standards and practices, manages fiscal responsibilities, and leads quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty area, including four (4) years in a management or leadership role.
  2. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing.
  3. Registered Nurse License (California) required upon hire.
  4. Basic Life Support certification.
  5. ACLS or PALS certification may be necessary for specific departmental roles.
  6. National Certification preferred within one year of hire.
  7. Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
