Job Overview and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), and the clinical oversight of a Physician and Surgeon, the Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting primary care providers across various healthcare environments. The Specialist, under the clinical direction of a healthcare provider or authorized by a provider's order, is tasked with executing patient-centered procedures, facilitating the operations of the Primary Care Team (PCT), effectively communicating with patients and team members, and managing administrative responsibilities. This role is essential in addressing the ongoing needs of patients, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and ensuring the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective utilization of healthcare resources.
Essential Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid certification from an agency recognized by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Medical Board of California, to practice as a Healthcare Support Specialist.

It is mandatory to have ACTIVE certification status prior to appointment.
Individuals eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.
Working Environment
Travel may be required as part of the role.

Verification of Minimum Qualifications will occur prior to interviews and/or appointments. If meeting Minimum Qualifications through education, unofficial transcripts/diplomas must be included for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. Candidates who do not meet Minimum Qualifications will be removed from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible for hire. Those withheld may appeal to the State Personnel Board.
New candidates to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice must undergo a background investigation process, including Live Scan Fingerprinting and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment, followed by annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
