The role involves:

  • Automating manual laboratory tasks and refining current processes utilizing liquid handlers, cell culture incubators, and other automation technologies.
  • Providing essential automation support for high-throughput assay development, method qualification/validation, sample management, and testing.
  • Training team members in automated bioanalytical procedures to ensure seamless clinical testing continuity for Moderna's clinical studies.

Essential Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with external partners. Staying informed about the latest technological advancements is crucial. The candidate should be an exceptional automation scientist, a cooperative team player, and an effective communicator to meet Moderna's portfolio requirements.

What You Will Do
Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and refining new liquid handler protocols for screening and high-throughput assay platforms, particularly using Hamilton Venus.
  • Collaborating with scientists to create, enhance, and implement automated workflows.
  • Conducting lab automation tasks such as protocol design, error recovery, and point-teaching.
  • Facilitating software communication between laboratory automation systems.
  • Implementing integrated lab automation solutions based on dynamic scheduling systems.
  • Assisting scientists with the operation of automation platforms, including the design, qualification/validation, and implementation of automated bioanalytical methods.
  • Documenting issues with automated systems and assay setups for effective troubleshooting.
  • Investigating, assessing, and adopting new hardware and digital control technologies in automation to enhance clinical sample analysis.
  • Training users on new methods and system functionalities to automate bioanalytical processes.
  • Collaborating with internal and external teams to identify solutions that enhance bioanalytical testing capacity and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in biology, engineering, biotechnology, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of experience in bioanalytical laboratories and automation solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with programming languages such as Java and C++, familiarity with LIMS systems or databases, and extensive experience with Hamilton liquid handlers is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a background in web services and be capable of troubleshooting complex automation equipment issues.
