Phlebotomy Specialist

Job Summary:
Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. As an Outreach Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting patient specimens in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and patient homes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify patient identification to ensure accurate specimen collection
- Assess patient reactions to specimen procurement and provide appropriate care
- Collect patient specimens using venipuncture and other methods
- Enter, release, and verify test requests into the computer system
- Process specimens for testing, including aliquoting and maintaining proper specimen identification
- Respond to additional specimen procurement requests via pager and/or phone from dispatch staff
- Follow established procedures for logging vehicle use and maintaining supplies and/or equipment
- Assist with inventory and instruct employees and students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing functions
Requirements:
- Current driver's license granted by the state of residency with a driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards
- High School Graduate
- Basic computer skills, including experience using computer software applications
- Keyboarding and typing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good listening and decision-making skills, and ability to use the telephone effectively
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other hospital and laboratory employees
Working Conditions:
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radioactive, and/or infectious agents
- Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids
- Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye and face protection as needed
- Must be able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner
