Position Overview

As a key member of Climeworks, your role will focus on being the expert in electrical grid operations, facilitating our strategic partnerships and contractual agreements with renewable energy suppliers. Your efforts will ensure that we procure clean and dependable energy to fulfill the operational needs of our Direct Air Capture (DAC) facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grid Interconnection Strategy: Oversee the development of our grid interconnection strategy for DAC facilities, from the initial site selection phase to the operational startup of DAC systems.
  • Transmission Modeling: Conduct transmission modeling utilizing tools such as PROMOD, PSS/E, or PowerWorld to deliver feasibility analyses for DAC and renewable energy projects, aiding in the decision-making process for site selection in our global DAC project pipeline.
  • Interconnection Planning: Collaborate with the Project Development team to formulate an interconnection plan and provide transmission and interconnection services for a portfolio of DAC initiatives.
  • Transmission Analysis: Execute comprehensive transmission analysis for the advancement of new DAC projects in targeted markets.
  • Technical Support: Supply all necessary technical and cost-related information to project developers for successful project interconnection.
  • Design Guidance: Offer expertise on design standards and regulatory codes.
  • Regulatory Assessment: Assist in evaluating regulations and tariffs pertinent to the respective grids, including aspects related to interruptible tariffs.
  • Qualifications: Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Engineering, along with 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in an Independent Power Producer (IPP) or renewable energy development context, particularly in managing interconnection processes in both regulated and deregulated markets.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with tools such as PROMOD, PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, and PSLF is essential.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrate a proactive attitude and a commitment to overcoming challenges, while effectively communicating technical issues to both technical and non-technical team members.
