Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Technician to join our Orthopaedic Surgery team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of routine, technical, and administrative tasks in support of research at the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare specimens for analysis
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Order and manage laboratory supplies
  • Assist with data analysis and report writing
  • Perform basic and clinical research protocols
  • Implement and manage analytical processing of samples
  • Carry out microsurgery on rats and histological analysis
  • Perform statistical analysis using SPSS and other software
  • Prepare reports and presentations on laboratory results
  • Maintain mouse/rat colonies and perform experiments in vivo
  • Perform surgical manipulation of laboratory animals
  • Communicate with study patients and participants
  • Supervise maintenance of instruments and validation of new instrumentation
  • Independently troubleshoot instrument and analytical problems
Requirements
  • Experience in a laboratory/research setting
  • Previous experience with animal work and tissue processing
  • Basic knowledge of statistics
  • Microsoft office experience
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's/Master's degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree
  • Proficient in basic wet lab techniques
  • Hands-on animal research experience and knowledge of state and federal regulations
  • Basic knowledge of electrophysiological techniques
  • Experience in electrophysiological testing and data analysis
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a laboratory setting and will be required to handle hazardous materials and work with laboratory animals. The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and study participants.

Language

The official language of the Commonwealth of Virginia is English, and the successful candidate must be proficient in English.
